What is Forest Church?

It is an alternative way of connecting with God as a community by participating with nature. It involves going for a walk (if you’re not able to walk far we find ways to meet people in certain spots) simple prayer, engaging your senses with the surroundings, meditation, playing and creative ways to help you see God in creation. We find a new angle when engaging in ancient practices and rituals like reading scripture and taking communion.

Is it just all the same church stuff but outdoors?

In short, no. It’s emphasis is on engaging with nature, God’s creation in ways that help us experience God’s presence. We surrender our senses and become mindful of the trees and bushes, birds and squirrels, flowers and ponds or whatever else makes up the outdoor landscape.

Why do church outdoors?

Meeting outdoors helps us explore our faith in fresh ways and invite people who might enjoy the outdoors and are curious about God, but are maybe uninterested in attending church as they’ve seen or known it. It’s also popular with families who want to get their children outdoors and find a way they can discover the joys of faith and the gift of church community!

Where do you meet?

We tend to meet in a park, a woodlands or the occasional trip to the Peak District.
